FAQs

The Louisiana Youth Jobs Tax Credit Program is a statewide initiative designed to help young people find employment and can provide needed cash flow to businesses, regardless of income tax liability.

The business must be in good standing with the State of Louisiana, pay wages to a qualified employee, and have physical locations in the State of Louisiana. An initial application must be submitted to the State of Louisiana, which Maximus will complete on the business's behalf.

The business must apply for certification to the Louisiana State Department on or after January 1st but no later than November 30th of the program year. Maximus will assist with this process.

An employee must start work between January 1 and December 31 of the program year, be a Louisiana resident, fit into a targeted socio-economic category, and be between the ages of 16 and 24.

For a full-time employee, the refundable tax credit is up to $1,250, and for a part-time employee, the credit is up to $750.

Employees must submit an application to the State of Louisiana, upon which a certificate will be issued if the individual is deemed eligible. Information on hours worked by that employee must be communicated to the state. Businesses will then receive a final certificate indicating the allowable credit for that tax year. Maximus will streamline the entire process and prepare the necessary tax forms to be attached to the Louisiana state tax return.

The Louisiana Youth Jobs Program is currently active through the 2027 calendar year.

Businesses that fail to comply with the program requirements may not receive their tax credit for that year.
